Build Showcase: Fummins

Hello everyone, welcome back to our Build showcase series! We would like to cover something very unique and special in this episode. It happens to be a Cummins swapped 1979 F350 truck that was hand built by a young man named “Riley Larson” and his team at Fired Up Automotive, they are based out of Black Diamond, Alberta. This isn’t just any truck, it was completely restored and repainted to the caliber of a show truck, and built to handle 800 horsepower to the crank. He has had the truck in shows and even on a dyno before.

- what got you into automotive work?

"My dad owns this shop called ‘Fired Up Automotive’, so I grew up around many different trucks and projects as a kid."

Fired Up automotive is a small mechanic shop in Black Diamond and has been here since 2005. Fired up usually works on trucks but we sometimes see the occasional project car. They have a smaller staff base yet they take on a large amount of business with ease.

-what made you choose this chassis?

" My dad always had lots of these old trucks, so I had to live up to his reputation."

- How long did it take for you to do the engine swap on your truck, and what engine did you put in it?

"So it's a 1997 twelve-valve with a 5-speed manual, we are going on about six or seven years now, it's never-ending."

-What would be your favourite part about this build so far?

" Definitely just driving it, that's a bonus. The truck is nice, but if you never drive it, you'll never enjoy it."

- What issues have you had while building and driving this truck?

"About a year ago I melted all six pistons in the motor while doing some drag racing. I just got a fresh motor and happened to blow up the T-case in Radium, BC, broken rear yolks, spit driveshafts out, three radiators, and ball joint issues. You name it, I've broken it.”

-you just recently had a dyno run on this truck?

"I did a dyno run out at Dirty Diesel in Kelowna, British Columbia, and put down 550 horse and 1325 torque, but I'd like a little more."

-We heard this truck has entered World Of Wheels?

" Yeah, just after the truck was painted and done, I took it to World Of Wheels and ended up eleventh overall in the entire show."

-What are your future plans?

"I hope it stops breaking, eventually I'll replace all the parts and hopefully it stops."

The creativity and uniqueness behind this build is truly inspiring, this is no ordinary truck. This truck is capable of everything from Overlanding, to drag racing and more! The Fummin’s (Ford Cummins) is a perfect example of passion within our automotive scene. We look forward to seeing further progress throughout the rest of your build!

From broken parts to broken hearts, Riley we love you and your truck.

Sincerely,

G13
